Heroes on Demand – Quig Tyoorl, Gand Scout

Alright, the new Fantasy Flight Games Edge of the Empire beta book is starting to get out to individuals across the world.  However, many don’t have a copy, and maybe you want a character for a local game or a play-by-post game.  Today, I present to you a character that I will be taking through my first spin in the game.  The character is a Gand, a species I have never played, but always enjoyed reading.  They are noted as being humble, especially ones who are not well  known and refer to themselves as “Gand” as they have not earned the right of using their own name when talking about themselves.

Equipment: Blaster Pistol (Ranged (Light); Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Medium]; stun setting), breathing apparatus, translator, shockprod staff (not sure of stats for this, though it is noted that this is common equipment for a Gand).

Background: Quig seems the typical Gand, and refers to himself as Gand, a common trait among similar individuals in his species who had not accomplished much. While the Empire had very little control over the Gand outside of their slave trade, their influence and control over parts of the monarchy cause problems for Quig’s family who were a lesser known part of the Gand nobility. Yet, others in the nobility used the Imperial control over the slave trade and government to push Quig’s family out of power. Quig has thus sworn to re-establish his families name, but the path to do that would be for himself to first gain renown in the galaxy, so that he can by more than just “Gand”. His goal thus expanded to not only raise his family back to their prior status, but to take down the cause of all the problems: The Empire.

The three questions:

  1. What does my character love: His family, he will do anything to re-establish them on his planet.
  2. What does my character hate: The Empire and those who are devious. Quig believes that the Empire and those who are deceptive are not to be trusted, and are a major source of the galaxies problems.
  3. Why is you character willing to work: Quig is Gand, and for Quig to become Quig, he must make his name.

Design Notes:  You can add more obligations if you want, to give yourself more points to spend to upgrade other areas, so there are ways to tinker with this Fringer style character which is really built around exploring and being observant of the world around him.
